360˚ Image Capturing

OpenSpace is a 360˚ image capturing application which automatically maps the images to floor plans while also providing a browser-based platform for project members to view the captured images.

With the project setup on the system the person responsible for taking the captures connects a suitable 360˚ camera to their phone or iPad using the OpenSpace app. Once the 360˚ camera is attached to a hard hat the user walks the site. When they have completed the site walk, they upload the recorded captures to the OpenSpace platform.

Since the start of the year, OpenSpace has been deployed on this project as well as on 14 other live projects in Ireland and the UK. Staff on these sites have been trained to use the software and wider projects teams have been given viewer training.

The benefits of using OpenSpace on this project as well as on their other projects includes:

  • Time: Reduced need for travel to site for staff, reduced time to locate images, reduced time to agree on valuations/final accounts and avoid disputes with subcontractors and clients.
  • Quality: Increased supply chain input into constructed works improving quality with significant project team input occurring away from the site.
  • Health and Safety: Enabling continuous off site monitoring by all levels ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Legal: Easily accessible, gapless documentation in case of future legal disputes.
  • Records: Organised records for future review if required (during defects period).
