Foil Tube Mastic

Astins always aims for continued improvement on sustainable construction. We have been successfully engaging with our client Multiplex to enhance and better protect the natural environment by promoting the use of foil tube mastic instead of traditional plastic tube mastic.

Foil packed tube mastic has been used on some of Astins’ projects, including Principal Place Residential, Royal Albert Dock, etc. The new pack has significantly reduced single-use disposable plastics on our sites. After the sealant has been fully dispensed, the foil casing ends up being roughly a 13mm tall disk.

This simple yet effective change has mitigated our need for plastic for this use, and has reduced the overall waste volumes. The foil waste is 24 times smaller than the plastic waste and by the end of the project, we will have saved 9,290 tubes of plastic and 96% volume of sealant packaging waste on Principal Place, simultaneously reducing the embodied carbon from the waste transportation.
