Buzz’s Portholes

The contractor created portholes through the hoarding for children to watch site operations.

During the early stages of construction, it was noted that whenever the site gates were opened for deliveries, it attracted a lot of children to watch what was happening on site. They would also try a peak through the gaps between the solid hoarding.

Acknowledging that this was a Health and Safety risk, but also that it was great to see children wanting to be involved in the project, the site team decided to install portholes.

The portholes are semi spherical domes mounted onto a colourful board, and cut through the solid boundary hoarding. This allows the children to watch activities as the building ‘grows’ while remaining safe.
