Carbon Savings of Community Donations

A key client focus on this project is to achieve the highest standards of sustainability through the retention of the existing structure and the reuse of materials where possible.

Surplus materials were made available to local schools and charities, with almost £4,000 worth of furniture donated to two local charities (St Mungo’s and Local National Park City). A combination of this value and the time spent by the team in facilitating and delivering equipment created a positive net social value figure of over £23,000.

Via OneClick, they have also worked out what these donations equate to in terms of carbon savings. In total the materials donated to charity equated to 4.24tCO2e.

The impact of projects on the community will be further embedded into conversations around carbon. There has been a recent push for information on embodied carbon savings, however now that they are incorporating community savings into their assessments, this means that projects across the industry will be able to address how to lessen impacts, and provide community savings as part of being a considerate contractor.
