DNA Insect Scan

This contractor created a method to measure the effectiveness of living walls for biodiversity.

This is important because insect rates are falling at an alarming rate with several studies reporting losses of 40%, the situation is critical and insects are vital for the functioning of our ecosystems. There are projects that will have introduced green walls and assumed that they have had a positive impact on biodiversity, however there is no real way to prove this.

This initiative shows tangible evidence of biodiversity increase, and if this is not increasing, then a new plan can be put in place (to potentially change the plants) to ensure the biodiversity definitely increases.

This initiative can monitor biodiversity effectively at any scale, the sampling process is extremely easy and you can quantify success of biodiversity restoration actions in urban environments. Further to this you can determine the ecosystem services of your living wall whilst monitoring the environmental impact through indicator species and use it as part of ESG reporting.
