First Aid at Your Fingertips

GRAHAM-Bam Healthcare Partnership believes that it is important to keep first aid at the forefront of all our operatives’ minds, both at work and outside of work. All of our Site Supervisors are trained with St John’s Ambulance, and skills/knowledge are updated regularly through refresher training courses.

However, individual confidence levels in a crisis can be very varied, and GBHP saw an opportunity to provide immediate support to assist with emergency situations through encouragement to all supervisors and supply chain to download the First Aid App produced by St John’s Ambulance.

The app is available for AndroidTM, BlackBerry® and iPhone® mobile device users, and includes the latest first aid advice and protocols for dealing with emergency situations including CPR, diabetic emergencies, choking and allergic reactions. It is simple to follow with illustrated guides and voiced instructions.

Primarily intended to be used as a quick aid to trained First Aiders onsite in an emergency, the app also serves as a useful refresher or reference at any time inside or outside of work to help improve confidence levels and to keep operatives updated of new techniques or safety protocols.

Encouragement of the app was widened to all operatives and colleagues across the site, to allow individuals not yet trained in First Aid to respond effectively or to assist in any emergency situation, where knowing what to do to in those few crucial moments can make the difference.

With benefits not exclusive to the workplace, this app has had many positive impacts to operatives outside of the workplace, and was followed up with the St John’s First Aid for Cyclists app.
