Matterport Technology for Progress Reporting

This technology creates a ‘digital twin’ of the construction site. Construction progress can be shared with all project stakeholders in particular the school staff, students and parents via a 3D virtual version of the project.

The project has been scanned and a virtual version of the job has been uploaded that everyone can “walk around” similar to Google Streetview. This is done via a type of cloud point 3D scanning camera.

The technology is known as quantum but what is innovative is being able to apply it to provide a true virtual tour of the progress of the construction works to stakeholders. Due to the coronavirus pandemic it is not possible to show all project stakeholders around the site but this tool allows the contractor to give them the virtual tour they need.

This is repeated every month. The school love the ‘live’ nature of the updates and it can be used in the future in conjunction with the school’s construction course.
