One of the most important steps of spill control is ensuring that no substances with the potential to harm the environment reach the site’s sensitive receptors. Often, these sensitive receptors will be the site’s drainage points, namely surface water drainage.
Recently, one of our sites faced a difficult challenge. Due to space restrictions, they were forced to carry out the concrete pumping and washout of wagons in close proximity to surface water drains. In order to ensure the best controls are in place to face such a challenge, the site team has found a suitable solution for preventing any washout spills from entering the site’s sensitive receptors.
The site has purchased drain covers which feature a super-durable, tear-resistant top layer with a chemical resistant polyurethane that resists water, oil and other chemicals. The item creates an instant temporary drain seal prevents pollution to any sensible points. The products features an extra bonus, as it is easy clean and thus, suitable for reuse.
The product was coupled to an ultra drain guard for drainage gully sediment control for extra security. This way the combined system features a second year of control, as it would be easy to remove oil or sediment pollution from surface water running into gully drains from the site’s normal operations.
This was a simple yet effective way to prevent pollution entering surface water drainage.
