Rerailing Equipment for Concrete Bullets

The concrete bullets used to transport concrete to the shutters underground each carry 15m3 of concrete and have the gross weight of 50tonnes.

The site mechanical team designed and built a system to re-rail a fully laden load back on to the tracks.

Trials have shown this is a very effective system to re-rail heavy trains in confined spaces removing personnel from the area during the rerailing.

Historically rerailing construction trains in tunnels has involved the tunnel workers around the equipment in confined spaces with potentially uncontrolled loads. The new system that has been developed does not require people to be close to the equipment as it is re-railed.
