Story Sacks for Local Schools and Nurseries

This contractor is running a story sack drive for local primary schools and nurseries in Lincolnshire. Story sacks consist of a sack containing a book and toys and games based upon the theme of the book. They are a resource which children can take home, read and enjoy with their family, before returning and swapping for another. The site manager has been making the sacks from donated materials, following a plea on social media. They have had an incredible response from volunteers who have also started making the drawstring bags, making finger puppets and designing games.

They have also asked their supply chain to circulate the plea and see if anyone is interested in being ‘crafty’ to help out. They have given people templates for activities and these range from digital designs of games through to making finger puppets.

Now the sacks just need to be filled with stories and games which is where the supply chain come in. The Amazon wish list has been set up so that the people donating can go on and buy items direct from the list. They have already had an incredible response from some of their supply chain partners and have well over 100 books and lots of toys and games too.

This project took some organising but once they enlisted a few volunteers it made the process much simpler and will be a valued resource for the school for some time. They have ensured that the books are mainly construction themed and some even focus on women in construction which can help to inspire the next generation of young ladies that they can be anything they want to be.
