Translator Vests and Stickers

In the construction industry, clear and concise communication is key to ensure that a project is delivered on time and to the client’s expectations. Furthermore, as information regarding a project is regularly updated and comes from many different sources, the necessity for accurate communication is all the more important. Accurate communication must flow between all members of the project team, and as such Astins has taken steps in order to support those for whom English is not their first language.

On Astins projects, there are specific members of the site team who are identified as translators in order to provide support on a day to day basis and attend inductions in order to ensure that clear communication is achieved. These members of the site team are identifiable with stickers on their hard hats, high visibility jackets and identified to all members of staff in Astins’ site inductions.

Having these clearly identified members of staff onsite ensures that project information is understood by all those concerned, and understanding is not hampered by a potential language barrier. Furthermore, if there has been a lack of understanding by any member of staff, they can request that this member of staff provide them with a translation, to allow every member of the site team to carry out their role confidently and support the effective and positive delivery of a project.
