Virtual Reality Toolbox Talks

Workforce training is crucial in maintaining safety standards on site. Contractors should seek interesting ways to engage operatives and ensure they understand and retain knowledge.

See the examples below for how one site addressed this:

  • The project developed 360 degree videos, and safety and environmental scenarios shot on site.
  • The videos can be viewed by operatives on smart phones mounted in VR headsets.
  • Each video contains a lesson, with text overlaid on the video.
  • The safety video shows a scenario where a young engineer fails to adhere to the rules, resulting in them being hit by the bucket of an excavator.
  • The user is asked a series of questions, and the answer is chosen by gaze recognition, making the toolbox talk immersive and engaging.

This initiative has been a success and is being further developed by the company.
