Zero Avoidable Waste Strategy

This contractor has put together a zero avoidable waste strategy with several actions already being put in place on the site.

These actions include

  • A ‘Waste segregation zone’ which includes area of cut-offs free for labour on site to take home with them.
  • Multilingual signage around the site on all signage and labels to bins in Romanian, Lithuanian, Polish, Albanian and Bulgarian in addition to English.
  • The use of Hard hat and pallet recycling firms and posters around the site advertising these.
  • A monthly skip/bin review which names items found such as plasterboard offcuts, what % of the bin they have taken up, cost of the item, what happens to the item and could it be used elsewhere rather then being skipped.
  • Developed a waste training spreadsheet – They have found through reviewing the site skips and bins that plasterboard and bricks seem to be the biggest cause of waste.
  • A waste audit has been created as an optional tool to support sites/projects in identifying opportunities for waste & resource reduction and improvements.
  • Beginning the documentation review of the waste transfer notes.
