Bespoke mock trials were aimed at site management to experience the potential legal aftermath of an imaginary accident involving a member of the public after boundary hoarding collapses due to materials leaning against it; the site manager being the defendant.

The training takes place in the real court rooms in the presence of lawyers. Some members of staff play different roles (site manager, contract manager, FLT driver etc) The trainees are the members of the jury who after listening to the witnesses, defendant and the prosecution after seeing the evidence have to decide if the defendant is guilty or not.

This is a way of providing experience and emphasises the importance of and consequences of accidents on site. It focuses on the after effects of all persons affected by the accident and the responsibilities associated due to someone’s potential lack of care and attention to detail. It is hoped that it will prevent accidents with a focus on all aspects of H&S and responsibility.

    I can endorse this method of learning experience as many people never experience what it is like to either be cross examined or witness court proceedings.
