Helping New Starters Integrate into the Business

We realise how daunting it can be to be a new starter within an established business or team. So we decided to put a new initiative in place to help new staff embed quickly into the business. We ask each new starter to prepare a short biography about themselves in their first week. This might include what their professional experience relates to, what they like doing in their time away from work, and what family they might have.

When the bio is completed, the senior manager within the team will send their bio out to the business so the new starters can be quickly recognised around the office or site and people can have a different level of engagement e.g. some of the bios have highlighted an interest in particular local rugby league sides, and then established staff who have an affinity with the same team or even some opposition teams can quickly build up a camaraderie with the new starter helping them integrate into the team or business, quickly helping to maximise the feeling of being valued and respected by new colleagues.

This simple initiative has led to an increase in how our workforce feel valued and helped maintain a human side to the business.
