Tower Crane Removal Reducing Community Impact

To remove the final tower crane from site with current UK lifting technology, a mobile crane would have needed to be placed in a busy road for 6 weeks.

This is the road directly adjacent to the sites most sensitive receptor, which is a residential block, and would have caused disruption to these neighbours and the surrounding area.

This was averted by the team researching new lifting methods, which resulted in the LTM 1650:8-1 mobile tower crane being used – a mobile tower crane which is new to the UK.

The crane’s lifting capability and flexibility meant that the mobile crane could instead by placed on Moorfields, and the road closure could be reduced to just a week. They also ran events with the local community with children and their families to learn more about tower cranes – including a VR experience, a LEGO challenge and a site visit.
