Construction Site Open Day

During the early stages of this project the contractor noted that the local area was plagued with anti-social behaviour and crime. To try and counteract this they stood down construction activities for a day to open up the site and allow in the local community.

They invited community activist groups and charities, the emergency services, youth and sports clubs, and local media and held keynote speeches and a Q&A session in an effort to convince local people that this was truly a positive development for the benefit of residents.

They hired professional caterers and fed 300 people (to some just a free decent meal was significant) and had a charity stall called ‘Community Kitbag’ selling sports equipment such as boots for £1 per item. Since this day anti-social behaviour and crime have ceased to be a big issue for them and the rugby club had a spike in people signing-up.

During the event the project invited criticism and responded to peoples concerns which led to them taking care of some other problems within the neighbourhood such as overgrown trees and bushes.
