Providing Opportunities to School Children

Carefoot recently completed 6 new classrooms and a new reception at Moorside Primary School, and we were invited to provide a top value raffle prize in support of their Summer Fair.

Following discussions with the Chair of Moorside Friends, we agreed to provide the top prize of an Apple iPad. The winning raffle ticket was won by one of the children’s parents.

We also provided an opportunity for the children (and adults) to have a go at bricklaying, plumbing in a sink using pushfit waste fittings, demonstrating a steady hand to beat the buzzer and a chance to sit in one of our telehandlers to have their photograph taken by the parents.

Contracts Manager Mark Armstrong, Site Manager Tony Quinn, Senior BDM Joe Moxham and our very own safety mascot Sammy Safesite’s alter ego Danny Morrison manned the stand for the evening.

After the changeable weather conditions during the day, the decision was made to gamble on an improvement and the event was held outside.

That gamble paid off because the sun came out just in time for the start of the event.

The evening was a tremendous success with children queuing up to have a go all evening.

Our stall was the most popular at the event and was acknowledged by Head Teacher Roger Shone who, at the end of the evening came over to thank us personally for giving the children these hands-on opportunities.
