Working with the National Citizen Service

Contractors should work to establish links with the local community and youth groups to encourage young people to consider a career in construction.

See the examples below for how one site achieved this:

  • The site worked closely with the client’s project team to develop links with the National Citizen Service (NCS).
  • The National Citizen Service is an initiative aimed at 15-17-year-olds focusing on developing skills for work and life through a team social action project.
  • The client was involved with the NCS and suggested that contractors could do more to promote construction to this audience of young school leavers looking for a career.
  • The site therefore worked with NCS participants to decorate the hoarding, with the hope that the experience will foster a positive attitude towards the industry.
