Community Insights Tool

Community Insight is an online community mapping tool that has been used by this contractor in combination with their community consultation activities to conduct a local needs analysis for the project.

This tool harnesses the power of open data, helping with ‘research and analysis’ stage of their local needs analysis. The online tool provides instant neighbourhood and community profiles, drawing on the very latest and most up-to-date data sources covering all major social and economic indicators, including newly published Census data.

They have used this data alongside community/client feedback to shape decision-making, such as deciding to help renovate a local youth centre which is located in a very high area of deprivation and a high area of community need.

The tool is simple to use and produces great visualisations to capture the date. It gives you the knowledge for a joined-up approach to community investment, helping to prioritise resources, and tailor your social impact. For example, when conducting the local needs analysis using the tool, they identified a high obesity prevalence in the local area. With these facts, they were then able to prioritise and evidence the need for providing health assessments and healthy living advice on site.
