Tyne Bridge Suicide Awareness and Intervention

This contractor has recently begun restoration works to the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle. All staff and operatives on the project must undertake suicide prevention and intervention training prior to commencing works on-site.

The Tyne Bridge is notable for suicide incidents, and therefore, the contractor has worked with Newcastle City Council, Emergency Services and the Lighthouse Charity to ensure the workforce are well-trained to deal with any incidences before emergency services can arrive.

The site is still a live public highway and pedestrian route, and so the risk is much higher than a traditional construction site, and they felt it was important to recognise this.
