Live Digital Feedback on Safety Observations

This project has developed a solution to ensuring that every member of the team can raise their concerns, ideas and feedback more easily than ever before and get live, instant updates and feedback on how the project is responding via a digital system throughout the site compound.

Using networked systems throughout the offices and welfare and at key locations throughout the site, all staff and subcontractors can see their contributions to the project and see the response in real time, generating a greater level of trust between all staff, senior project managers, clients and visitors by offering unprecedented transparency. In addition, they can use the digital displays to share more up to date campaign material and support communications.

They have used an observation card system for many years across their sites, latterly moving to an app to raise safety concerns, good practice and other key feedback direct to project leadership. Whilst these systems have delivered excellent results, the difficulty has always been the speed at which they can feed back to the workforce on the steps being taken to address feedback received. They have also used ‘You Said – We Did’ boards which have been successful but this digital solution not only massively improves communication, but also improves workforce engagement as staff and operatives can literally watch their feedback make a difference in real time. The impact is clearly evident with over 500 observations submitted in the first 6 months.

Every observation that they receive has the potential to save a life. Anything they can do to increase workforce engagement around being active in raising any issues quickly and effectively is core to their open and honest safety culture. The teams need to have confidence in the system in order to engage with it and they have evidenced already that this system increases their engagement and vastly increases the number of observations that are submitted each period.
